Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has approved the employment of 1,037 health professionals and supportive staff to Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) across the state. The move aims to strengthen healthcare services at the grassroots level.
"The giant strides are aimed at bolstering improved healthcare services at the grassroots level," said Professor Mohammed Arab Alhaji, Executive Secretary of the Borno State Primary Health Care Development Board. "These initiatives align with the Universal Health Coverage and Pillar 3 of the 10-year Strategic Transformative Plan, providing accessible, affordable, and quality healthcare services to the citizenry."
The approved staff include 859 health professionals from the Multi-Sectoral Crisis Recovery Project (MCRP), 111 health professionals and 52 supportive staff for five PHC Centres, and 15 health professionals for two facilities in Mobbar local government. Additionally, 341 health professionals will be engaged through the Basic Health Care Provision Fund to support frontline workers.
Governor Zulum has also directed the implementation of the minimum wage and enhanced allowances for healthcare workers to motivate the workforce. "The Governor has approved the absorption of 859 health professionals, 111 health professionals, and 52 supportive staff, among others," Prof. Arab said.
Other interventions include the renovation and upgrading of 123 PHC Centres, provision of solar-powered boreholes, essential drugs, and medical consumables through various interventions.
