The Kebbi State Government has agreed to pay March salaries to state workers, a gesture welcomed by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) state council. The assurance was given during a meeting between labour leaders and the Head of Service, Muhammad Malami Shekare Mni, on Sunday in Birnin Kebbi.
"We, the organized labour and other affiliated unions, have held a meeting with the state government via the HOS office to express our position that we want the government to pay March salary to state workers. Even though the salary is being paid, workers will spend 40 days instead of 30 days. So, we solicit for this gesture from the state government, and which the state government, through the head of civil service, has agreed to pay the March salary from today, being Sunday," said Comrade Murtala Usman, Labour Chairman.
The labour leader expressed gratitude to the state government, led by Governor Nasir Idris, for the gesture, noting that it will help workers prepare for Sallah activities, alongside the free Ramadan Palliatives distributed by the government. "On behalf of the state workers, we want to use this opportunity to acknowledge all the gestures, welfare, and support to workers in the state. We assure the governor of continued support and cooperation from state workers and labour leaders," Usman added.
According to Comrade Usman, March salaries will be paid to Kebbi state workers starting from Sunday until Sallah day.
The Head of Service, Alhaji Muhammad Malami Shekare Mni, appreciated the labour leaders for their continued support and cooperation, assuring them of the present administration's continued support.
