Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris, has visited the scene of the ambush in Giro Masa, Shanga Local Government Area, where bandits killed nine soldiers, one police officer, and a local resident on Tuesday night.
The governor expressed his sadness over the incident, saying, "It is a very sad day for our military. They received a distress call that bandits intended to attack the community, but unfortunately, they were ambushed on their way to the location."
A community leader, who spoke anonymously, said, "We alerted the military about the bandits' presence, and they responded promptly. Unfortunately, they were ambushed, and we lost brave men."
Dr. Idris, who met with injured soldiers at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Birnin Kebbi, assured that the state government would take care of their medical bills and support the families of the deceased. "We offer our condolences to the families of the 11 people who were killed while carrying out a rescue mission," he said.
Two soldiers are currently receiving medical attention, and the governor assured that their bills would be taken care of.
The governor also announced that the state government would replace the two operational vehicles burned by the bandits. "I thank the military for doing their best and being alive to their responsibility. This incident shouldn't make you relax; continue to show professionalism and carry out their responsibility," he said.
Dr. Idris is heading to Abuja to meet with the Chief of Army Staff to discuss the incident. He was accompanied on his visit to Giro Masa by the Emir of Yauri, Dr. Muhammad Zayyanu Abdullahi, and other top government officials.
The governor prayed for the souls of the deceased to rest in peace and condoled with their families, friends, and well-wishers for the unfortunate lost.
