Hundreds of young people marched through Kaduna city, demanding transparency and justice for the disappearance of Dadiyata, a case they linked to former Governor Nasir El-Rufai. The protesters, carrying placards and chanting slogans, converged on the government house, calling for El-Rufai's accountability and an investigation into the alleged loss of $350 million in state funds.
"We are not here for politics, we are here for accountability," said Anas Yusuf and Comrade Joseph Chori, leaders of the protest. "Kaduna bled, communities were attacked, Birnin Gwari faced isolation, banditry escalated, citizens were kidnapped, families buried loved ones, and fear became normal during the last administration."
The protesters demanded an independent public security audit of El-Rufai's administration and full disclosure of the $350 million World Bank loan, including the agreement, breakdown, and records. "Loans are not free money. Public debt demands public accountability because no one is above the law," they said.
Governor Uba Sani's administration has brought relative calm to Kaduna, the protesters noted. "We will not allow destabilization to shield anyone from scrutiny, this is not revenge, this is justice and this is democracy," they emphasized.
The youths warned against attempts to divert attention, accusing some individuals of sponsoring "fake" protests to protect El-Rufai from investigation. They called for the immediate arrest of Bashir Saidu, Jafaru, and Hafiz Bayero, alleged to be behind the diversionary tactics.
"We will not forget the victims. Kaduna deserves better and Kaduna will demand it," the protesters declared.
