Birnin Kebbi, Nigeria -June 20, 2026 (Series News Online) -The Kebbi State Police Command has killed the leader of a kidnapping gang and arrested one of his accomplices during a coordinated operation in Bagudo Local Government Area, the command said over the weekend.

The breakthrough followed credible intelligence provided by a member of the public, according to a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman.
“Operatives of the command, in collaboration with joint security personnel, arrested one Bube Tukur, male, of Yarma Village, Suru LGA, and resident of Kasuwar Daji, Bagudo,” SP Usman said. “He is a member of a kidnapping gang responsible for the abduction of Alhaji Abu Geza of Geza Village, Bagudo LGA.”

Preliminary investigation showed that Tukur belonged to an eight-member gang headed by one Jiji Mujugu. Police recovered one locally fabricated pistol and one live cartridge from the suspect. The victim, Alhaji Abu Geza, was rescued unharmed.

“During interrogation, the suspect led operatives to the gang leader’s hideout. On sighting the team, Jiji Mujugu opened fire and attempted to escape. Operatives returned fire, neutralising him,” SP Usman stated. “One locally fabricated pistol was recovered from him.”

The police said the gang had been terrorising several communities in Bagudo and Suru LGAs, including Geza, Adawa, Matsinkai, Sharabi, Illela, Suru, Dakin Gari, and surrounding areas.
“Efforts are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing members of the gang,” SP Usman added.

The Commissioner of Police, Kebbi State Command, commended residents for their cooperation and urged them to continue providing timely information to security agencies.

“We urge residents to continue cooperating with security agencies by reporting suspicious activities through 09039911876 or 07081074395. All information provided will be treated with utmost confidentiality,” SP Usman quoted the Commissioner as saying.
