The Senate of Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto (UDUS) has approved the appointment of Prof. Shehu Usman Gulumbe as the new Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics). The confirmation was made during a Senate meeting on February 25, 2026, where members deliberated on key administrative and academic appointments.
Prof. Gulumbe, a renowned Professor of Statistics in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, has made significant contributions to multivariate analysis, statistical computing, and applied mathematical research. He currently serves as Director of the UDUS Consultancy Service and is among the institution's leading researchers.

As Deputy VC, Prof. Gulumbe will oversee academic programmes, research initiatives, admissions processes, and teaching standards. His tenure is anticipated to drive innovation, improve teaching and research standards, and foster academic growth across the university.
Students, faculty, and staff expect Prof. Gulumbe to reinforce academic leadership and scholarly excellence at UDUS. His research work focuses on multivariate statistics and applied data analysis, including climate change impacts in Northern Nigeria using co-kriging techniques.
