Governor Bala Mohammed has launched the construction of five modern markets in Bauchi State, aimed at transforming the state's economy and enhancing urban development.

The projects, which include the New Wunti Market, New Furniture Market, New Vegetables Market, New Fanteka Market, and a New Grains and Herbal Market, are part of the state's efforts to reposition Bauchi as a major commercial hub in Northern Nigeria.

"These markets are a strategic and deliberate effort to meet the demands of our growing population and to address the challenges of congestion, poor sanitation, and insecurity in our existing markets," Governor Bala said during the groundbreaking ceremony.
According to him, the state's population growth over the past decade has led to increased demand for commercial infrastructure, which the existing markets can no longer meet.

"The markets constructed decades ago, though historic and once significant, can no longer meet the needs of our expanding urban and rural communities," he said. "The volume of wholesale and retail trade today far exceeds what existing infrastructure was designed to accommodate."

The Governor explained that the new markets would be built under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, which would reduce pressure on public funds while ensuring technical competence and timely delivery of projects.

"Traders would be allowed to pay for their shops in four installments, with government subsidies to ensure affordability," he said.
Commissioner for Cooperatives and SMEs, Hon. Muhammad Sadeeq Hamisu Shira, described the project as a symbol of progress and opportunity, saying it would strengthen commerce and empower small and medium enterprises in Bauchi State.

"This is not just a market; it is a symbol of progress, opportunity, and our unwavering commitment to economic transformation," he said.
Managing Director of the Markets and Terminals Management Company, Alhaji Muhammad Kabir Sizwe, commended the Governor for his commitment to infrastructure development and economic growth, assuring that the company would ensure transparency and professionalism in the project.
