President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has described the Argungu International Fishing and Cultural Festival as a powerful symbol of national unity with immense economic benefits. He made this remark as the Special Guest of Honour at the 61st edition of the festival in Argungu, Kebbi State.
"The festival has endured for 83 years, and it stands as a powerful symbol of unity, resilience, and peaceful coexistence of our people," Tinubu said. "It reflects the richness of our culture, strengthens our tradition, providing opportunities in increasing and harnessing our natural and human resources for national development".
Tinubu commended the government and people of Kebbi State for successfully hosting the event, citing improved security as a key factor. "I'm pleased to note that significant progress has been made in fighting insecurity across Kebbi and other parts of our nation," he said. "We are still working very hard through coordination, coordinated efforts between the Federal, State Governments, and Security Agencies".
Governor Nasir Idris expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for gracing the festival, highlighting his administration's achievements in agriculture, health, education, and infrastructure. "From ascension to power to date, my administration has made tremendous impact on improving agriculture, health, education, roads infrastructure, and empowerment, which shall be sustained," Idris said.
The Emir of Argungu, Alhaji Sama'ila Muhammad Mera, also thanked President Tinubu and Governor Idris for their support. A fisherman, Abubakar Usman Maiyama, caught the largest fish weighing 56 kg, winning prizes including cash and gifts.
