"We share in your pain, the ache of losing a hero is a weight that can never be fully lifted," said Hajiya Asma'u Kanoma, Military Widows' Coordinator, as she led the emotional tribute to fallen soldiers at the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration in Birnin Kebbi.

Addressing the gathering at Haliru Abdu Stadium, Kanoma expressed gratitude to Governor Nasir Idris for his unwavering support. "Your kindness, empathy, and generosity towards us have been a source of comfort and strength," she said, appealing for job opportunities and skills acquisition training for widows.

Governor Idris, in his address, reaffirmed his administration's commitment to enhancing the welfare of serving and retired Armed Forces personnel and families of fallen heroes. "Their sacrifice secured the peace and freedom Nigerians enjoy today," he said, laying a wreath to honour the fallen.

Idris announced ongoing investments in state security, including vehicles and vigilante training, assuring veterans of their inclusion in the state's development agenda. He urged Nigerians to uphold peace, justice, and unity.

Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Yakubu Bala Tafida, announced a ₦30 million donation to the Officers' Wives Association, Widows Association of Soldiers and Servicemen. The Kebbi State Government donated ₦50 million, while Idris personally contributed ₦10 million to the Nigerian Legion.
