Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has been honored with the Best Performing Governor in the Oil and Gas Sector Award at the 3rd Edition of the Nigerian Oil and Gas Forum Awards 2026. The award recognizes his administration's efforts in promoting the growth and development of Nigeria's oil and gas industry.
The award was presented by Nafisa Haruna Aliyu, leader of the forum, who cited Governor Mohammed's establishment of the Bauchi State Oil and Gas Academy, Alkaleri, as a notable achievement. "Governor Bala Mohammed was selected for his outstanding contributions to the sector, particularly the establishment of the Bauchi State Oil and Gas Academy, the first state-owned oil and gas training institution in Nigeria," Aliyu said.
The academy is expected to enhance skills development and capacity building in the oil and gas sector. The Bauchi State Government is also supporting the Kolmani oil exploration project, a vital initiative for Nigeria's energy security and economic growth.
Governor Mohammed described the oil and gas sector as a critical pillar of Nigeria's economy. "The oil and gas sector is a critical pillar of Nigeria's economy, providing opportunities for dialogue, innovation, policy coordination, and strategic partnerships," he said in a statement read by Commissioner for Information and Communication, Hon. Usman Shehu Usman.
The Governor reaffirmed his administration's commitment to working with stakeholders to strengthen the sector. He was represented at the event by Commissioner Usman, who said the award reflects the ongoing reforms aimed at strengthening institutions and diversifying the state's economy.
The Nigerian Oil and Gas Forum Awards 2026 brought together industry stakeholders, policymakers, and experts to discuss the future of Nigeria's energy sector. Governor Mohammed commended the forum for recognizing individuals and organizations contributing to national development. "This initiative is timely and deserving of broad support," he said.
The Governor announced plans to establish an Oil and Gas Institute in Bauchi State, with students already undergoing skills training in various segments of the industry. He highlighted achievements in governance, infrastructure, healthcare, education, and youth empowerment, noting that the state is attracting development partners and investors.
Commissioner Usman described the award as a testament to Bauchi's progress, saying, "The recognition is a clear testament to the progress being recorded in Bauchi State, particularly as acknowledged by professionals within the oil and gas industry."
The event was attended by industry leaders, policymakers, and stakeholders, who called for collaboration to build a resilient and inclusive energy sector.
