Lokoja, Kogi State, Nigeria - December 2, 2025(Series News Online)- The Commissioner of Police, Kogi State Police Command, CP Naziru Bello Kankarofi, psc, mni, has reiterated the total ban on the sale, distribution, and use of fireworks, knockouts, bangers, and all categories of pyrotechnics across the state as the Christmas and New Year festivities approach.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, CP Kankarofi emphasized that the ban is aimed at preventing fire outbreaks, injuries, security breaches, and other avoidable incidents commonly associated with the indiscriminate use of fireworks during the festive period.
"The Command will not hesitate to arrest and prosecute anyone found engaging in the sale, possession, or use of fireworks, whether in private residences, public spaces, markets, or event centers," he warned.
The CP called on residents, traders, community leaders, and event organizers to adhere to the directive and cooperate fully with the police.
"We urge members of the public to remain vigilant and immediately report any illegal activities involving fireworks to the nearest police station or through the Command's emergency contact line," he said.
The police command has announced plans to intensify patrols, surveillance activities, and targeted operations in all parts of the state to ensure strict enforcement of the ban.
