Bauchi, Bauchi State, Nigeria - December 2, 2025(Series News Online)-The Senate has announced the appointment of Senator Shehu Buba (APC, Bauchi) as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Livestock and Animal Husbandry. The announcement was made by Senate President Godswill Akpabio on Tuesday.
"The committee is expected to play a pivotal role as Nigeria intensifies reforms in the livestock sector and seeks sustainable solutions to recurring farmer-herder conflicts," Akpabio said.
Akpabio also named three other senators to head critical standing committees of the upper chamber, appointments he said were aimed at strengthening legislative oversight and ensuring the Senate responds effectively to emerging national priorities.
"These appointments are necessary to improve efficiency and enable the Senate to address urgent issues in national security, economic planning, and agricultural reforms," Akpabio stated.
Senator Abdullahi Yahaya (APC, Kebbi) was appointed Chairman of the Committee on National Intelligence and National Security, while Senator Osita Ngwu (PDP, Enugu) was announced as acting Chairman of the Committee on Air Force.
Senator Musa Mustapha (APC, Yobe) was appointed Chairman of the Committee on National Planning.
The appointments come shortly after the Senate dissolved two key security-related committees, the Committee on National Security and Intelligence and the Committee on Air Force.
