UNICEF Supports Sokoto Govt's Response to Cholera Outbreak, Aids 12 LGAs

The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) has commended the Sokoto state government for its swift response to the recent cholera outbreak in the state. According to reports, the state government, with support from UNICEF, has distributed free medical supplies to 12Local Government Areas (LGAs) in a bid to contain the spread of the disease.

"We are working closely with the state government to provide emergency response to the affected areas," said a UNICEF representative. "Our efforts are focused on providing access to safe water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) facilities, as well as distributing essential medical supplies to those in need."

The cholera outbreak has affected several LGAs in Sokoto state, with many cases reported in Sokoto North, Silame, and Kware. In response, UNICEF has provided support to the state government, including the supply of Aqua tabs, cholera kits, WASH dignity kits, and chlorine drums, among other essential items.

"We are committed to supporting the state government in its efforts to prevent and respond to disease outbreaks," said the UNICEF representative. "Our goal is to ensure that all children and families in Sokoto state have access to the healthcare services they need to stay healthy and thrive."

The Sokoto state government has also been praised for its efforts to promote hygiene practices and prevent open defecation, which are key factors in the spread of cholera. The state government has been working to increase awareness about the importance of proper hygiene and sanitation, and has been distributing hygiene kits to affected communities.

UNICEF has been supporting the state government's efforts, and has provided funding and technical assistance to help respond to the outbreak. The agency has also been working with other partners, including SIDA and the US Bureau of Humanitarian Assistance, to provide additional support to the response efforts.
