The Kebbi State chapter of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) has announced its decision to boycott the party's national convention scheduled to hold today, November 15, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State. According to the party's Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Sani Dododo, the Kebbi PDP chapter is distancing itself from the convention due to the candidacy of Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, who is seeking the national party chairmanship.
The party questioned Turaki's legitimacy as a member, citing his suspension from the party in April 2023 for alleged gross misconduct, anti-party activities, and non-payment of subscription fees. The suspension, which was announced by his ward, Nasarawa 1, also affected seven other members, including former gubernatorial candidate Gen. Bello S. Yaki.
In a petition dated October 25, 2025, the Kebbi State PDP chapter formally notified the chairman of the screening committee for the national convention of their rejection of Turaki's nomination, citing the aforementioned grounds. The petition, jointly signed by Chairman Alhaji Usman Bello Suru and Secretary Abubakar Bawa Kalgo, was accompanied by a list of signatures and phone numbers of state working committee and non-working committee members, all airing their grievances against Turaki's candidacy.
The Kebbi PDP chapter has warned that anyone parading themselves as a delegate from the state will be doing so without the party's authorization. All delegates from Kebbi State are reportedly staying home in protest. The national convention is expected to proceed despite the boycott, with various stakeholders and delegates in attendance.
