Major General Warrah Idris has assumed command of Headquarters Operation FANSAN YAMMA (OPFY), taking over from Air Vice Marshal Abubakar Abdullahi. The formal handing and taking over ceremony was held at the Theatre Headquarters, OPFY, Gusau, Zamfara State.
Air Vice Marshal Abdullahi, the outgoing Acting Theatre Commander, expressed gratitude to officers, men, and civilian staff for their loyalty and support during his brief tenure. "I appreciate the professionalism and teamwork that has led to the achievements recorded in the theatre," he said, urging them to extend the same support to his successor. Air Vice Marshal Abdullahi has been posted to Nigerian Air Force Headquarters (NAF HQ) as the Chief of Policy and Plans (NAF).
In his maiden address, Major General Idris thanked the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) for the confidence reposed in him and commended his predecessor for his leadership. "I pledge to consolidate on existing gains and enhance synergy among components of the Joint Task Force," he said, urging all personnel to remain disciplined, focused, and innovative in the conduct of operations.
The new commander also called for stronger collaboration with communities and security stakeholders to achieve lasting peace in the region. "We must work together to achieve our goals," he emphasized.
The ceremony included the signing and exchange of handing and taking over notes, symbolic handover of the command flag, and a group photograph.
Captain David Adewusi, Media Information Officer, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, said the change of guard is expected to further boost the morale of troops and enhance the operation's effectiveness in addressing security challenges in the region.
