Three suspended officials of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Shinkafi Local Government Area of Zamfara State have filed a suit before the State High Court in Gusau, challenging their suspension from the party.
The plaintiffs, Hon. Babangida Aliyu Shinkafi, Kabiru Ibrahim, and Ibrahim D. Kurya, filed the suit on Friday, seeking judicial intervention to halt what they described as their "illegal, vindictive and unconstitutional suspension" from the party.
According to the plaintiffs, they remain bona fide executive members of the APC, having been duly elected during the 2022 party congress. They alleged that their suspension was politically motivated and linked to their loyalty to APC chieftain Alhaji Sani Abdullahi (Wamban Shinkafi), who is said to have a strained relationship with some influential actors within the state chapter of the party.
"We were sidelined for months, excluded from meetings, and denied invitations to party functions. We were eventually suspended without due process," Hon. Babangida Aliyu Shinkafi said.
The plaintiffs argued that neither the ward nor local government disciplinary committees issued them any query or invited them to defend any allegation, insisting that their suspension violated the APC Constitution and the principles of fair hearing.
Through their counsel, Bello Idris Galadi and Associates, the plaintiffs asked the court to declare the action of the party officials null, void, and of no effect, describing it as a brazen abuse of power intended to silence them for their political alignment.
"We are seeking a declaration that the suspension of our clients is null, void, and of no effect. We are also seeking an injunction to restrain the APC and its officials from taking further steps to suspend, expel, harass, or intimidate them," Bello Idris Galadi said.
The suit, which has been filed but is yet to be assigned to a judge, also seeks a perpetual injunction affirming their status as legitimate officers and prohibiting any future attempt to remove them without strict adherence to laid-down procedures.
The case is expected to be assigned in the coming days, setting the stage for a fresh legal battle that could deepen the internal cracks within the Zamfara APC ahead of the next political cycle.
