The proprietor of NationalWatch TV and publisher of NationalWatch Newspaper, Alhaji Amuda Dan Sulaiman Fab, has vowed to seek legal action against a petitioner who accused him of slander. The veteran journalist was recently invited by the police over a "phantom allegation" but was released on bail after the petitioner failed to produce witnesses to support the claim.
Speaking to newsmen shortly after his release, Alhaji Dan Sulaiman described the development as a calculated attempt to tarnish his reputation and intimidate the press. "Politicians who think they can use their influence to embarrass journalists must be taught a lesson through legal means," he said. "The days of using power to silence the truth are over."
The media proprietor maintained that NationalWatch TV and its sister publication would not be deterred by such antics, stressing that the organization remains committed to professionalism, objectivity, and the pursuit of truth in journalism. "We will not be intimidated or blackmailed into compromising our values," he added.
Alhaji Dan Sulaiman further urged media practitioners across the country to remain steadfast and courageous in the discharge of their constitutional duties. "Journalism should never be suppressed by intimidation or false accusations," he emphasized. "We must stand firm in defense of press freedom and the right to report the truth, no matter the challenges."
The journalist's stance has been seen as a bold defense of press freedom and a testament to the growing resolve of media practitioners to uphold their professional standards in the face of increasing threats and intimidation.
