A devastating accident has claimed the life of Dr. Emmanuel-Olowonubi Oluwakemi Mercy, a lecturer in the Department of Theatre Arts at the Federal University Lokoja. The tragic incident occurred on Wednesday at the Crusher, Felele area of Lokoja, where the lecturer was crushed to death by a trailer.
Until her untimely death, Dr. Mercy was a respected member of the university community, known for her dedication to her students and her passion for the arts. Her passing has sent shockwaves throughout the institution, with students and colleagues alike mourning the loss of a beloved teacher and mentor.
"Dr. Mercy was more than just a lecturer; she was a mother figure to many of us," said a colleague, who wished to remain anonymous. "Her death is a huge loss to the university community, and we will miss her dearly."
This latest tragedy has raised concerns about the safety of road users in Lokoja, particularly with regards to the enforcement of traffic laws. Recently, the Kogi State government banned trailers from plying the road during the day, but it appears that this law is not being strictly enforced.
