Bauchi, Bauchi State, Nigeria - September 13, 2025 (Series News Online)
The Bauchi State Muslim Parliament has advocated for dialogue, economic empowerment, and community reconciliation as a way to address insecurity in Nigeria. In a press conference held in Bauchi, the parliament's leader, Engr. Ahmad Yusuf, said that Nigeria could learn from the success of using persuasive communication strategies to resolve insecurity issues in the Niger Delta region.
Yusuf noted that security experts and analysts agree that Nigeria's complex security threats require both kinetic and non-kinetic responses. He cited Senator Shehu Buba Umar, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Security and National Intelligence, as someone who has re-anchored this approach as a panacea to the country's insecurity problems.
The Bauchi Muslim Parliament also defended Senator Buba against allegations of involvement in banditry, describing the claims as "vicious smear campaigns and image-tarnishing." Engr. Yusuf questioned whether the Nigeria security establishment would allow a senator to engage in clandestine activities that undermine national peace and security.
The parliament expressed its unwavering support for Senator Buba, citing his commitment to national security, development, and the well-being of his constituents. "As members and stakeholders from his constituency, we bear witness that Senator Shehu Buba Umar has consistently demonstrated his commitment to national security, development, and the well-being of his constituents," Yusuf said.
The Bauchi Muslim Parliament believes that Senator Buba has the approval of relevant agencies and stakeholders to pursue dialogue and engagement for reconciliation with all segments of society involved in infringing on the nation's peace and security. Engr. Yusuf stated that the parliament is representing the voice of Islam and Muslim communities across the country, with a concern for the nation to understand the facts and dispel misrepresentation on matters concerning the communities and their representative in the National Assembly.
