Kebbi State Polytechnic, DakinGari, has taken a significant step towards combating Gender-Based Violence (GBV) on its campus. The Technical Working Group (TWG) on GBV, led by Her Excellency Hajiya Zainab Nasare Kauran Gwandu, paid an advocacy visit to the institution on Monday, September 15, 2025.
During the visit, the TWG urged the polytechnic's management to establish a structured and functional GBV Response Team. Dr. Abdulmumin Musa Omiya, Public Relations Officer of the TWG, emphasized the importance of having a responsive system in place to support survivors of GBV. "Survivors deserve access to comprehensive support, including medical, psychosocial, and legal services," he said.
The institution's Rector, Dr. Abubakar Dallatu, welcomed the initiative and directed the formation of a GBV Response Team within the polytechnic. "While institutional rules exist, this advocacy visit has brought to light the need for a more dedicated and systematic approach," Dr. Dallatu said.
The TWG's visit was well-received by the polytechnic's management and Student Union Government. Key members of the management, including the Deputy Rector, Chief Security Officer, Director of Works and Engineering, Dean of Students' Affairs, and Head of Department (Education), were present during the visit.
Dr. Dallatu's directive marks a significant milestone in the polytechnic's commitment to protecting its students and staff from GBV. With this new resolve, Kebbi State Polytechnic, DakinGari, is set to join the frontline of institutions providing survivors with structured protection, justice, and healing.
The establishment of the GBV Response Team will enable the polytechnic to provide comprehensive support to survivors, including access to medical, psychosocial, and legal services. This development is a victory for advocacy and a giant leap in the ongoing fight against GBV in Kebbi State.
