A senior customs officer, Sani Shuaibu from Yobe State, was killed in a suspected Lakurawa attack on Monday evening at Filgila checkpoint in Kamba, Kebbi State. Shuaibu, who served as the Officer in Charge of the Federal Operations Unit (FOU) of Customs Kaduna zonal office in Kamba, was shot while praying at the mosque.
According to eyewitnesses, Shuaibu was rushed to the Federal Teaching Hospital Birnin Kebbi for medical attention but was confirmed dead by doctors. The deceased officer was buried on Tuesday morning in accordance with Islamic rites at the burial ground in Dukku along Makera-Kangiwa Road in Birnin Kebbi.
The incident has sparked fear and panic among security personnel and citizens in the state, with concerns about the increasing threat posed by bandits and Lakurawa gunmen. Many sympathizers, customs personnel, friends, and faithful Muslims attended Shuaibu's funeral prayers and burial at the graveyard in Dukku.
This incident highlights the growing insecurity in the region and the need for increased measures to protect security personnel and citizens. As of now, there are no official statements from the customs department or security agencies regarding the incident.
