Tragedy has struck the judiciary family in Kebbi State as Chief Magistrate Umar Salisu Kokani lost his 22-year-old son, Umar Faruk Kokani, who was born on January 26, 2003. Umar Faruk Kokani was a 100-level student of Federal University Birnin Kebbi (FUBK), studying History and International Relations.
Umar Faruk Kokani, who was a first class diploma in law graduate at Waziri Umaru Federal Polytechnic Birnin Kebbi, passed away after a brief illness at the Federal Teaching Hospital Birnin Kebbi. He was subsequently buried according to Islamic rites.
The news of his demise sent shockwaves across the judiciary, with family relatives, friends, and well-wishers expressing their sorrow and sadness over the sudden loss.
The funeral prayer was attended by numerous dignitaries, including the leadership of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) Kebbi State branch and their members, private legal practitioners, and government officials.
Some of the notable attendees included A.A Filgila & Co Chamber, Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Hudu Garba Lawal, SAN, from the Ministry of Justice, magistrates, the Permanent Secretary of the Kebbi State Law Reform Commission, Rufi'u Ahmed, and the Secretary of the Kebbi State Judiciary Service Commission (JSC), Umar Bawa.
Others who attended the funeral prayer were the Chairman of Kalgo Local Government Council, Alhaji Yahaya Kuka, relatives of Chief Magistrate Umar Salisu Kokani, and close friends and well-wishers.
The community is still grappling with the sudden loss, and the attendance at the funeral prayer is a testament to the impact Umar Faruk Kokani had on those around him.
