"Security Initiative Bridges Gap Between Communities, Security Forces in Dandi LGA" - Search for Common Ground Under ECPS Project"

A peace and security initiative implemented by Search for Common Ground under its Enhancing Collaboration for Peace and Security (ECPS) project has brought together security agencies, local peace architecture members, and community leaders to address emerging security challenges in Dandi Local Government Area, Kebbi State.

The dialogue, held on August 20, 2025, along the Nigeria-Benin border communities, created a platform for direct engagement between stakeholders to jointly address security challenges. The session brought together traditional and community leaders, security agencies, and civil and community groups.

Security representatives spoke on their respective mandates, including border control, anti-smuggling efforts, drug prevention, traffic management, fire safety, and community policing. Participants also discussed early warning systems, vigilance, and strengthening collaboration to address insecurity in border communities.

The security agencies and community stakeholders agreed to embark on regular joint patrols to deter criminal activity and foster confidence among residents. Community members appreciated the opportunity to meet security forces face-to-face, voice their concerns, and jointly explore solutions.

Umar Abdullahi, Retired Assistant Controller of Immigration, Dandi Security Committee Secretary, and LPA Co-Chair, described the initiative as a step in the right direction. "This initiative demonstrates how inclusive dialogue can bridge the gap between citizens and security institutions, strengthen trust, and foster sustainable peace in fragile border areas," he said.

The ECPS project aims to enhance collaboration for peace and security in Kebbi State. The initiative has shown that inclusive dialogue can be an effective tool in addressing security challenges and fostering peace in border communities.
