The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Kebbi State Council held its maiden congress on Thursday, July 31st, 2025, presided over by its Chairman, Comrade Bello Sarki, at Akoko House, Birnin Kebbi.
The congress extended a congratulatory message to Gov. Nasir Idris, as the pioneer NUJ patron, with the Chairman stating, "The congress extended congratulatory message to Gov. The congress passed a vote of confidence on Gov. Nasir Idris, with members unanimously agreeing, as stated in the communique, "Members unanimously agreed that the Governor has not only transformed the state capital from hitherto, a glorified Local Government Headquarters to a befitting state capital but also executed other developmental projects across all sectors of the economy."
The congress expressed concern over the harsh economic strain being experienced by Nigerians, calling for urgent sustainable action, as stated, "Congress expressed concern on the hash economic strain being experienced by Nigerians, while calling for urgent sustainable action to cushion the effects."
The union tasked security agencies to combat the scourge of insecurity, particularly the notorious bandits in some areas of the state, with the communique stating, "They also tasked the security agencies to quickly put measures in place towards combating the scourge of insecurity, particularly the notorious bandits in some axis of the state, and to strengthen the security architecture for effective and efficient protection lives and property."
The congress called on people in Kebbi to keep their surroundings clean to avert the spread of the deadly cholera outbreak and other diseases, as stated, "Congress called in people in Kebbi to always keep their sorounding clean in order to avert the spread of the deadly cholera outbreak and other diseases that are ravaging many states in Nigeria."
The union insisted that each member must possess an NUJ ID card, with the communique stating, "The union insisted that each member must possess NUJ ID card, hence the need for all to pay for their registration fees to obtain the new ID card as directed by the national body."
A Disciplinary Committee was constituted to moderate and implement the ethics of journalism, as stated, "A Disciplinary Committee was constituted to moderate and implement the ethics of journalism."
The congress issued a warning to those impersonating as journalists and misusing press identity and stickers, calling on security agencies to arrest impersonators, with the communique stating, "The congress issued a sound of warning to those impersonating as journalists misusing press identity and stickers, while calling on security agencies to arrest impersonators."
