Senator Shehu Buba Umar, representing Bauchi South Senatorial District, has launched a free mass animal vaccination campaign at Gobbiya, Bogoro Local Government Area, aimed at protecting the health and livelihoods of livestock owners across the district.
The exercise, which targets the vaccination of 85,000 domestic animals including cattle, sheep, and goats, was attended by traditional rulers, lawmakers, APC stakeholders, party leaders, and representatives of herdsmen from various communities.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony on Saturday, Senator Buba noted, "This year, we will be vaccinating 85,000 livestock in this senatorial district. Last year, we successfully vaccinated 40,000 animals. I believe this is a responsibility we owe both our farmers and herders. They are Nigerians, they vote for us, live with us, and contribute significantly to our economy."
Senator Buba further stated, "Representation is a trust, and I’ve done my best to deliver what is due to our people at the right time. This exercise is not just a political gesture but a vital step toward protecting livelihoods, strengthening food systems, and preventing the outbreak of livestock diseases."
The vaccination will be carried out across all seven local government areas in the senatorial district, with veterinary teams spending two days in each LGA to ensure comprehensive coverage. Senator Buba explained, "This campaign is a symbol of our shared commitment to the health of our livestock, the safety of our communities, and the strength of our economy."
Alhaji Aminu Tukur, a stakeholder from Dass, Tafawa Balewa, and Bogoro Federal Constituency, commended the initiative and urged livestock owners to cooperate by bringing their animals forward for vaccination. He also appealed to the Senator to establish a skills acquisition center in the area to curb youth unemployment and to follow up on the completion of a federal road project initiated by former Speaker Yakubu Dogara.
Many beneficiaries, particularly herders, expressed appreciation for the initiative, praising Senator Buba’s dedication to improving animal health services, encouraging responsible livestock production, and supporting rural communities through impactful programs.
