Kebbi To Host National Badminton Championship September 2025

Kebbi State is poised to serve as the venue for the 2025 National Badminton Championship, scheduled to take place in September. This confirmation comes on the heels of Governor Nasir Idris' sanctioning of the event. To ensure a triumphant hosting experience for participants hailing from all corners of the country, Governor Idris has mandated the Kebbi State Badminton Association, spearheaded by the Commissioner for Works, Engr. Abdullahi Umar Faruk Muslim, to initiate preparatory measures.

The Governor revealed this initiative during an official visit by representatives of the Kauran Gwandu Badminton Association to the Government House in Birnin Kebbi on Monday. Governor Idris highlighted the phenomenal surge in badminton's popularity across Nigeria, declaring, "Badminton is rapidly growing in popularity in Nigeria, now only second to football."
Underscoring the necessity of prompt planning, Governor Idris stated, "We must begin planning early because we are bringing Nigeria here. Let me see your budget, we will discuss it. I want Kebbi to set the standard for hosting National Badminton Championships." Additionally, he extolled the accomplishments of Kebbi-based badminton athletes, observing, "sons who are making us proud with their doggedness, securing victory after victory."

 Acting in his role as Grand Patron of the Badminton Association, Governor Idris conferred honors upon members who had recently garnered accolades in national competitions. This gesture serves as testament to his dedication to fostering badminton within Kebbi State.

The Chairman of the Kauran Gwandu Badminton Association, Engr. Abdullahi Faruk Muslim, conveyed his appreciation to Governor Idris for appointing 14 association members to diverse government positions. He further praised the Governor's unwavering backing for the advancement and promotion of badminton throughout Kebbi State and the nation at large.

Preceding this, the Secretary of the Kauran Gwandu Badminton Club, Abubakar Abdullahi Easy, expressed gratitude to Governor Idris for his "fatherly care" and support, which he attributed to the association's notable successes and medal-winning achievements.
