Kebbi Police Arrest Suspect for Culpable Homicide in Birnin Kebbi

 The Kebbi State Police Command has announced the arrest of one suspect in connection with a culpable homicide case in Birnin Kebbi. The incident occurred at about 0800hrs on Monday, July 21, 2025, behind the central market in Birnin Kebbi.

 The victim, identified as Auwal Umaru, a 35-year-old male from Katami village, Silami Local Government Area of Sokoto State, was found lying in a pool of his own blood. The Divisional Police Officer, Central Market, mobilized a team of policemen and vigilantes to the scene and swiftly evacuated the victim to Sir Yahaya Memorial Hospital, Birnin Kebbi, where he was certified dead by a medical practitioner.

 The police arrested one Bello Amakwa, a 30-year-old male from Birnin Kebbi town, in connection with the case. Commissioner of Police, Kebbi State Command, CP Bello M Sani, stated, "Following a credible lead, one Bello Amakwa 'm' aged 30yrs of Birnin Kebbi town has been arrested in connection with the case."

 During preliminary investigation, the suspect confessed to using a knife to stab the deceased on the neck, resulting from a mere argument at about 0230hrs on the same date. The police also recovered the exhibits used in committing the crime. CP Bello M Sani stated, "In the course of preliminary investigation, the suspect confessed to have used a knife and stabbed the deceased on his neck, as a result of mere argument, at about 0230hrs of the same date. Similarly, the exhibits used in committing the crime have also been recovered."

 CP Bello M Sani appealed to youths to seek redress from appropriate authorities when aggrieved and desist from self-help. CSP Nafiu Abubakar, Police Public Relations Officer, quoted CP Sani as saying, "The Commissioner of Police, Kebbi State Command, CP Bello M Sani hereby appealed to the youths to always seek redress from the appropriate authorities, when aggrieved, and desist from self help."

 The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for thorough investigation and prosecution. CSP Nafiu Abubakar quoted CP Bello M Sani as directing, "He however directed the DPO to immediately transfer the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a thorough investigation and prosecution."
