Kaduna, June 22, 2025 – The Supreme Council for Islamic Shariah in Nigeria, Kaduna State Chapter, has strongly condemned the killings of 12 innocent travelers in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State.
In a statement signed by the Council's Secretary, Engineer AbdurRahman Hassan, the Council expressed deep concern over the attack, which occurred on June 21, 2025, resulting in the deaths of 12 travelers from Kaduna State and injuring many others. "This senseless violence against innocent travelers is deeply disturbing and unacceptable," the statement read.
The Council expressed sadness that such incidents have occurred repeatedly in Plateau State, affecting Muslim travelers disproportionately. "We are troubled by the recurring attacks on innocent travelers in Plateau State, including the Du Pond tragedy and the killing of Major General Idris Alkali (Retired)," the statement added.
The Council urged the Plateau State Government to take concrete steps to bring the perpetrators to justice and prevent future attacks. "We call on the Plateau State Government to investigate this incident thoroughly and ensure that those responsible are held accountable," the statement said. They also commended the Kaduna State Government for its prompt response and urged it to continue working towards justice for the victims and their families.
The statement concluded by calling on the Plateau State Government to address the underlying issues driving these conflicts and work towards lasting peace in the region. "We appeal to the citizens of Kaduna State to remain calm and law-abiding, and to avoid taking any actions that could escalate the situation," the Council added, while praying for the souls of the victims and quick recovery for the injured.
The Council's statement highlights the need for urgent action to address the security challenges in Plateau State and ensure justice and peace for all its citizens.
