"Three Police Officers Detained Over Suspect's Death in Kebbi"

The Kebbi State Police Command has detained three police officers in connection with the alleged murder of a suspect, Abubakar Auwal, who was arrested for stealing rims of a trailer truck at the Divisional Police Headquarters in Jega. The suspect was arrested on April 15, 2025, and collapsed in detention on April 16, 2025, while investigation was ongoing. Despite being rushed to the General Hospital in Jega for treatment, he died on the same day at about 2200hrs.

The circumstances surrounding his death raised suspicions of foul play, prompting the Commissioner of Police, Kebbi State Command, CP Bello M Sani, to direct that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for discreet investigation. According to a statement signed by CSP Nafiu Abubakar, Police Public Relations Officer, the investigation revealed that the three officers were found culpable and are currently detained at the SCID for further investigation and disciplinary action.

The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) has been queried and transferred with immediate effect. The Nigeria Police Force reassured the general public of its unwavering commitment to upholding the highest standards of ethics and professionalism in discharging its duties.

"The wrong actions of few Officers do not reflect the values of the Nigeria Police Force, prompt and disciplinary measures are always taken against the erring Officers to ensure accountability and justice," the statement read. The Nigeria Police Force remains dedicated to maintaining discipline, protecting the integrity of its operations, and fostering the trust and confidence of the people it serves.

CP Bello M Sani urged officers to uphold the highest standards of ethics and professionalism in discharging their duties, emphasizing that the Force will not tolerate any form of misconduct or unprofessional behavior. The Kebbi State Police Command assured the public that it will continue to work tirelessly to ensure justice and accountability in all its operations.
