"Kawara Community Urges Governor to Halt Land Grabbing"

Members of the Kawara community on the outskirts of the Kebbi State Capital are appealing to the government for quick intervention to stop land grabbing arising from road construction in the area. The community has been seeking an access road to traverse nine villages with high agricultural and economic potentials.

A spokesperson of the people, Bello Muhammad Kawara, informed journalists on Friday that a top official of the State Ministry of Lands had directed the contractor to divert the course of the road construction to create an avenue for land appropriation. "For a very long time, our people have sought for an access road to traverse nine villages in the area which have high agricultural and economic potentials," Kawara said.

The road, which starts from Sani Abacha bypass, Birnin Kebbi, passes through Kawara, Kardi, Gwazon Fulani, Gwazon Zabarma, Unguwar Maifada, Bango Fulani to Randali. The Federal Government had awarded the contract for the 1.2 km road, and work is in progress. However, Kawara alleged that a top official of the Kebbi Ministry of Lands had ordered the contractor to change the direction of the project, creating an opportunity for land grabbing to satisfy personal interests.

"Unfortunately, a top official of the Kebbi Ministry of Lands has ordered the contractor to change the direction of the project, that will take it off-course thereby creating opportunity for land grab to satisfy personal aggrandisement," Kawara stated. The people of the community are worried over this order, which they view as a flagrant abuse of office that may raise issues between them and the top official of the Ministry of Land if not addressed urgently.

The community is appealing to Governor Nasir Idris for his intervention to save them from unnecessary hardship and confusion. "We appeal to Governor Nasir Idris for his intervention to save the communities from unnecessary hardship," Kawara said, reaffirming their support and loyalty to the Federal Government under President Tinubu and to the state government under Governor Idris.

"We are law-abiding citizens, reaffirming our support and loyalty to the Federal Government under President Tinubu and to our dear Governor Nasir Idris," Kawara added, expressing hope that the governor would intervene to prevent further complications.
