The First Lady of Kebbi State, Hajiya Zainab Nasare Nasir Idris, has advised parents and guardians to encourage their daughters to wear the hijab at all times, citing its importance in protecting their honor, dignity, and integrity. She made this call in Birnin Kebbi on Sunday, during the World Hijab Day celebration.
According to Hajiya Zainab, the hijab serves as an antidote to rape due to the sanctity associated with it. She appealed to husbands to encourage their wives to wear the hijab during outings, emphasizing its significance in preserving dignity. The First Lady also cautioned boys and girls against drug abuse, consumption of intoxicants, and other immoral acts, highlighting their harmful effects.
Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Dr. Halima Muhammad Bande, echoed the First Lady's sentiments, emphasizing the hijab's role in protecting the dignity of womanhood. She urged women and girls, including students, to always cover themselves with the hijab, expressing concern over rising substance abuse cases among women and girls.
Hajiya Balkisu Zaki, Amirah of the Federation of Muslim Women Associations of Nigeria (FOMWAN), encouraged women of all religions and backgrounds to wear the hijab for a day to experience and understand its significance. She explained that World Hijab Day aims to educate people about the importance of the hijab, promote religious tolerance, and understanding.
This year's World Hijab Day theme, Hijabs Unsilenced, celebrates the strength, resilience, and determination of hijab-wearing women worldwide. The event was organized by the Joint Muslim Women's Organizations in Kebbi State, in collaboration with the office of the First Lady.
