In a significant blow to terrorist organizations operating in the country, troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have successfully conducted clearance operations along the Shinkafi, Kagara, Fakai, Moriki, Maiwa, and Chindo axis, resulting in the death of scores of terrorists, including the son of notorious terrorist leader Bello Turji.
According to Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, the operation, which took place on January 17, 2025, involved a coordinated effort between ground troops and air components, targeting terrorist hideouts in Fakai high ground. "The intensity of troops' firepower resulted in high terrorist casualties and their logistics hub destroyed," he said.
The operations also resulted in the rescue of several kidnapped hostages held captive by Bello Turji. However, the terrorist leader himself escaped, abandoning his son and combatants in a cowardly act. "Troops are sustaining the onslaught against the terrorist," Major General Buba assured. "Overall, troops continue to demonstrate commitment to the safety and protection of all citizens across the country."
In a related development, troops also destroyed another terrorist kingpin camp known as Idi Mallam along Zango Kagara Forest. During the encounter, troops neutralized three terrorists, arrested three suspected collaborators, and recovered two machine guns, one AK47 Rifle, and other ammunition. Additionally, 61 rustled cattle and 44 sheep were rescued among other sundry items.
