The Nigerian military has deployed a Special Operations Brigade to Sokoto and Kebbi states to combat the Lakurawas sect, a terrorist group operating in the region. This move is part of efforts to consolidate successes achieved under Operation Forest Sanity III (CHASE LAKURAWAS OUT), aimed at eradicating the sect and restoring normalcy to the affected communities.
Brigadier General Ibikunle Ajose, the General Officer Commanding 8 Division Nigerian Army and Commander Sector 2 Operation Fasan Yamma, has addressed the troops, emphasizing the importance of adhering to the rules of engagement and protecting the lives and properties of law-abiding citizens while eliminating the Lakurawas sect .
Before the deployment, troops of 8 Division under Operation Fasan Yamma achieved significant milestones, including the destruction of about 22 bandit camps. Additionally, they recovered four rifles, 409 rounds of PKT 7.62mm NATO ammunition, and 94 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.
The deployment of the Special Operations Brigade is expected to serve as an additional force to frustrate the activities of the bandits and restore normalcy to the affected communities and the Northwest region.
