Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed Establishes Panel to Address SAZU Challenges

Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has taken a significant step towards resolving the ongoing strike and other challenges at the Sa'adu Zungur University (SAZU). He has established a high-level Visitation Panel, chaired by Prof. Gambo Laraba Abdullahi, to investigate the causes of the strike and other issues affecting the university. The panel's focus will be on staff welfare concerns, industrial relations, and financial operations of SAZU.

The panel's objectives are multifaceted, aiming to investigate the causes of the ongoing strike, examine the adequacy and effectiveness of academic programs, research initiatives, and quality assurance mechanisms, evaluate the state of infrastructure, facilities, and resources required for teaching, learning, and research, assess the governance structure and adherence to the University's enabling laws, and recommend policies and strategies to address identified gaps in welfare, funding, infrastructure, and academic excellence.

The panel members, comprising eminent professionals and education experts, include Prof. Gambo Laraba Abdullahi (Chairperson), Director Ministry of Higher Education and Regional Integration, Abdullahi Usman Kardam, Engr. Adamu Sama’ila, Barr. Ben Ogbuchi, Usman Aliyu Kawu, Adamu Babayo Gabarin, Mohammed Atiku Isa, and the Permanent Secretary Establishment, Office of the Head of Civil Service (Secretary).

The Bauchi State Government has reassured the university community and the public of its commitment to the growth and stability of SAZU, with the goal of positioning it as a hub for academic excellence and industrial harmony . The panel has been tasked with providing actionable recommendations to address welfare and administrative challenges disrupting academic activities and creating operational uncertainty within the university.
