The Kebbi State Government, through Direct Contact Communication Ltd, has organized a two-day workshop for Councillors and Vice Chairmen from the 21 Local Government Councils. This initiative aims to improve community-based information gathering and enhance security in rural communities, addressing growing concerns over security.
The initiative is part of the state government's deliberate response under the leadership of Dr. Nasir Idris Kauran Gwandu. Speaking during the workshop, Lead Consultant Prof. Mustapha Nasir Malam stressed the significance of early security threat detection and proactive measures for peace and tranquility at the grassroots level.
Prof. Malam emphasized strengthening collaboration with stakeholders in security discussions, encouraging intelligence gathering, and training Councillors in information gathering and reporting techniques. He highlighted Direct Contact Communication Ltd's expertise, with resource persons combining academic and professional experience.
Prof. Malam expressed optimism that the workshop will enhance participants' capacity to support the state government's efforts in containing insecurity and delivering democratic dividends. He appreciated the state government's human capital investment, which will positively impact local government councils' security strategy and performance.
Ibrahim Bubuche Mni, retired Assistant Director-General of DSS, emphasized that security is everyone's business, requiring collaborative efforts. He commended the state government for organizing the workshop, confident it will foster stronger community-law enforcement partnerships.
“Grassroots security is the foundation of national safety. By empowering communities to participate in proactive information sharing, we can combat emerging threats and ensure a peaceful environment for all,” said Bubuche.
Kebbi State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, represented by Permanent Secretary Hajiya Aisha Muhammad, underscored Dr. Kauran Gwandu's commitment to addressing security challenges comprehensively. She called on stakeholders, including traditional rulers, religious leaders, and youth groups, to support and participate in the initiative.
The workshop was attended by 253 participants, including Vice Chairmen, Councillors, and officials from the Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs. Notable attendees included Prof. Mustapha Nasir Malam, Prof. Ibrahim M. Jumare, and Dr. Shadi Sabeh.
