In a bid to enhance meat and milk production in Kebbi State, Indonesia has commenced the process of artificial insemination of livestock development. This initiative is part of a bilateral agreement between Indonesia and Kebbi State, aimed at strengthening cooperation in livestock development and agricultural production.
The Indonesian Ambassador to Nigeria, AVM, Dr. Usra Hendra Harahap, led a team of experts to Kebbi State to kick-start the program. During a meeting with Kebbi Deputy Governor, Sen. Umar Abubakar Tafida, in Birnin Kebbi, Dr. Usra emphasized that the artificial insemination and embryo transfer program marks the beginning of a strong bilateral relationship between Indonesia and Kebbi State.
Dr. Usra noted that Indonesia has almost 30 years of experience in producing high-quality frozen semen, which will enhance genetic quality in Kebbi State's livestock. The Ambassador also announced plans to train 50 professionals from Kebbi State in artificial insemination and livestock management.
Kebbi Deputy Governor, Sen. Umar Abubakar Tafida, welcomed the initiative, acknowledging the importance of the visit by the Ambassador and his team. Sen. Tafida expressed appreciation for Indonesia's donation of semen for the program and highlighted Kebbi State's potential for livestock production, citing its large expanse of fertile land and its position as a leading producer of rice and wheat in Nigeria.
The Insemination Centre, which is being established at Bulasa, near Birnin Kebbi, is expected to play a crucial role in boosting meat and milk production in Kebbi State.
