In a dramatic turn of events, discrepancies in the victim's age have surfaced in the alleged rape case against Basiru Hassan of Gwadangaji town, Birnin Kebbi Local Government Area. Before Hon. Justice Maryam Abubakar Kaoje at High Court 6, the prosecution presented Inspector Yilchini as PW1.
"During cross-examination by defense counsel, Barrister Ahmad Abubakar Fingilla, the medical report revealed the victim's age as an adult, contradicting the charge that stated 14 years, while in her statement made at the SCID Birnin Kebbi, she claimed to be 16 years old."
Prosecution's Counsel, Barrister Abubakar Ahmed Mohammed, sought an adjournment to November 20 for continuation of hearing, which was granted by the court.
The case, initially mentioned on September 23, 2024, involves a one-count charge of rape contrary to Section 259 of the Kebbi State Penal Code 2021.
