The rainstorm claimed the lives of two women and destroyed 366 houses, 30 perimeter walls, and eight electricity poles. Livestock including cows, goats, and sheep were also swept away, while other property and valuables suffered extensive damage.
Senator Buba presented the relief package at the palace of the District Head of Bara, Alhaji Muhammadu Abdullahi, on Saturday. The lawmaker sympathized with the victims and described the disaster as an act of God.
“The disaster is an act of God and I pray that such calamities will not recur,” Senator Buba Umar stated.
He pledged to raise the matter in the Senate when the National Assembly resumes from its two-week recess.
“I will raise the matter on the floor of the Senate upon resumption from the National Assembly's current two-week recess,” Senator Buba said.
Senator Buba, who is also the Peoples Redemption Party, PRP, governorship candidate for the 2027 elections in Bauchi State, extended condolences to bereaved families.
“I extend my condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in this disaster and pray for the repose of their souls,” he stated.
He explained the breakdown of the cash donation.
“Of the N6.5 million donated, N5 million is earmarked for affected victims, while N500,000 each is allocated to youths, women and traditional leaders in the community,” Senator Buba explained.
He assured residents of his continued support for their recovery.
“I assure you of my continued commitment to supporting efforts aimed at alleviating your suffering and helping you rebuild your lives,” Senator Buba assured the victims.
The member representing Kirfi Constituency in the Bauchi State House of Assembly, Hon. Suleiman Sani Kusa, also made donations during the visit.

The District Head of Bara, Alhaji Muhammadu Abdullahi, thanked the senator for the intervention and described it as historic.
“We thank Senator Buba for this donation, which is unprecedented in the political history of this district,” Alhaji Muhammadu Abdullahi said.
He noted that Bara’s location exposes it to seasonal flooding from the eastern axis and called for long-term mitigation measures.
“Bara’s location makes it vulnerable to flooding whenever large volumes of water flow into the area from the eastern axis, and this year’s disaster is the worst in recent memory,” the District Head stated.
“The flood destroyed more than 360 houses, several walls and farmlands, while also claiming two lives and numerous livestock,” he added.
He appealed to the senator to help address the recurring flood problem and also acknowledged an additional donation.
“I appeal to the Senator to facilitate measures that will divert floodwaters away from the town to prevent future occurrences,” Alhaji Muhammadu Abdullahi said.
“I also appreciate Senator Buba for donating a carpet to the Bara Central Juma’at Mosque and pray for Allah’s blessings upon him,” he stated.
Some beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the assistance.
“Senator Buba is a representative who places the welfare of his constituents above personal interests,” one of the beneficiaries stated.
