Birnin Kebbi, Nigeria — June 4, 2026(Series News Online)- Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu, on Thursday inspected roads damaged by heavy rainfall in Dandi Local Government Area and assured residents of immediate government intervention.
The affected roads include the Kingakwai–Fana–Dakingari Road and the Fana Township Road, which links Fana town to adjoining communities. Both roads have been rendered partially impassable, disrupting movement of people and farm produce.
At the Kingakwai–Fana–Dakingari Road, the member representing the area in the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Hon. Dr. Suleiman Fana, and the Commissioner for Works, Engr. Abdullahi Umar Faruk, briefed the Governor on the extent of the damage.
“The heavy rainfall caused serious erosion and washed away portions of the road surface,” Hon. Dr. Suleiman Fana said. “This has made transportation difficult for our people, especially farmers taking their produce to market.”
The Commissioner for Works, Engr. Abdullahi Umar Faruk, recommended civil engineering solutions to prevent a recurrence.
“Based on our assessment, we recommend the construction of additional culverts and other drainage structures along this stretch,” Engr. Faruk said. “These structures will channel runoff water properly and restore the road to a motorable condition while preventing future erosion.”
Governor Idris, accompanied by Ambassador Sa’idu Usman Nasamu Dakingari and other government officials, inspected the affected sections and pledged prompt action.
“My administration is committed to the welfare of our people across all 21 local government areas,” Governor Idris said. “We have seen the damage caused by this rainfall. The Ministry of Works will move in immediately to provide temporary palliative and commence permanent reconstruction to ease the suffering of our people.”
Earlier in the day, the Governor and his entourage visited Kamba town to pay a condolence visit to the residence of the former Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Samaila Abdulmumin Kamba, over the death of his wife, Hajiya Fatima Abdulmumin.
“We pray Allah grants her Aljannatul Firdaus and gives the family the fortitude to bear this loss,” Governor Idris said during the visit. “Hajiya Fatima was a mother to many. Her death is a loss not only to her family but to the entire state.”
Rt. Hon. Samaila Abdulmumin Kamba appreciated the Governor’s gesture.
“I thank His Excellency, Governor Nasir Idris, for this visit and for identifying with us in this moment of grief,” the former Speaker said. “May Allah reward you abundantly.”
The late Hajiya Fatima Abdulmumin, aged 65, was survived by nine children and was buried in accordance with Islamic rites.
