Tinubu’s Delegation Led by Shettima Condoles With Kebbi Over Speaker’s Death, Slain Soldiers, Shanga Attacks

Birnin Kebbi, Nigeria, April 14, 2026 (Series News Online) -President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Monday sent a federal delegation to Birnin Kebbi to condole with the government and people of Kebbi State over the death of the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Muhammad Usman Zuru, the killing of 10 soldiers, and recent bandit attacks on communities in Shanga Local Government Area.  

The delegation was led by Vice President Kashim Shettima and included the Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, Hajiya Zubaida Umar; a representative of the House of Representatives; senators; and the Special Adviser to the President on Special Duties, among others.  
“Your Excellency, we are in Kebbi State on the order of Mr. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to convey profound condolences, commiserate, and to show our empathy over the demise of the Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Muhammad Usman Zuru, the loss of 10 gallant soldiers, as well as the bandit attacks that affected some communities in Shanga Local Government Area some days ago,” Shettima said.  

He added, “Mr. President instructed us to represent him and offer his condolences to you, the family, friends, and the entire people of the state over the losses of lives and property in the affected communities of Shanga Local Government Area.”  
“Your Excellency, accept our condolences and empathy on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over the demise of Speaker Muhammad Usman Zuru,” the Vice President stated.  

Shettima said President Tinubu directed the NEMA Director General to join the delegation to ensure immediate relief for the affected communities.  

“Mr. President directed DG NEMA, Hajiya Zubaida Umar, to be part of my delegation to the state to ensure an adequate arrangement of relief assistance for the communities that were hit by bandit attacks in Shanga Local Government Area,” he said. “DG NEMA is a daughter of Kebbi State.”  
The Vice President further conveyed the President’s regard for the state. “Your Excellency sir, Mr. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has Kebbi people in his heart and considers the state very important and contributing to his administration’s achievements,” Shettima said.  

He offered prayers for the deceased. “We pray for the departed souls to rest in perfect peace. May Allah grant them Aljannatul Firdaus,” he said.
