Kebbi State Government has distributed one million power tillers, solar pumping machines, and other farm inputs to farmers to kick-start the 2026 dry season farming. The distribution is part of the Kauran Gwandu Agricultural Transformation Agenda (KADAGE), aimed at empowering farmers, improving productivity, and enhancing food security.
"We have recorded significant successes in rice, wheat, millet, and maize production. Last year, rice production increased from 3.5m tonnes, and we expect an increase of over 3.8m tonnes this year," Governor Nasir Idris said. He added that his administration has distributed fertilizers worth N3bn to farmers free of charge to boost food production.
The Governor also announced that his government has procured assorted grains as Ramadan palliatives for distribution to over one million people in the state. "We are committed to supporting our farmers and ensuring food security in Kebbi and Nigeria," he said.
Federal Minister of Agriculture, Abubakar Kyari, praised Kebbi's agricultural potential, saying, "Kebbi is where people work, land works, and agriculture works. Agriculture is not seasonal; it's a lifetime tradition, and over 80% of people participate in it."
The Commissioner for Agriculture, Shehu Mu'azu, said the distribution was a fulfillment of the governor's campaign promises to farmers. The Chairman of the Rice Farmers Association of Nigeria (RIFAN), Yusuf Gabi Argungu, commended the government, saying farmers are happy with the support and will continue to support the governor's initiatives.
