Suspected members of the Lakurawa Terrorist Group (LTG) were neutralized in a foiled ambush in Maiyama Hill, Kebbi State, on Sunday, as the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 8 Division and Commander Sector 2 of the Joint Task Force North West Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Major General Bemgha Koughna, led his convoy to visit frontline troops.
The convoy came under heavy fire from armed terrorists while traversing the volatile forested terrain, but Major General Koughna and his troops responded with overwhelming firepower, killing five terrorists and repelling the attack.

"The GOC's convoy came under sudden and heavy fire from armed terrorists while moving through the volatile forested terrain," said Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations 8 Division, Nigerian Army.
"This operation not only secured the convoy but also disrupted the terrorists' plans, delivering a strong deterrent message to insurgent groups," Osoba added.

A cache of weapons and intelligence materials was recovered, including one OJC Gun, one PKT Gun, two AK-47 Rifles, and four AK-47 Magazines, among other items.
"The operation underscores the unwavering commitment of 8 Division Nigerian Army to protect civilians and eliminate terrorist threats in the North West region," Osoba said.

Troops remain deployed in the area, maintaining vigilance to prevent further attacks.
