The Chairman of Kaduna South Local Government Area, Hon. Rayyan Hussain, has formally endorsed the Open Government Partnership (OGP) co-creation process, signaling his administration's commitment to accountability and inclusive governance.
The endorsement, which establishes a collaborative framework between the local government and Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), aims to improve service delivery, particularly in the health sector, and rebuild public trust. "The co-creation process reflects our shared commitment to improving governance outcomes through transparency and active citizen engagement," Hussain said.
According to Hussain, the initiative aligns with the core principles of OGP, especially citizen participation and inclusiveness, and is expected to enhance accountability mechanisms within the local government system. The co-creation process was driven by structured consultations, dialogue, and sustained engagement involving government departments, agencies, and civil society actors.
Civil Society Organisations are expected to play a strategic role in mobilizing citizens and sustaining engagement throughout the OGP implementation cycle. Hussain acknowledged the pivotal role of CSOs in identifying priority governance and service delivery challenges, proposing practical and measurable milestones, and supporting implementation, monitoring, and feedback processes.
The council has committed to faithful implementation of the jointly agreed strategic vision and action plan, sustained collaboration with civil society partners, and openness in monitoring, reporting, and evaluation. "This endorsement represents our official commitment to advancing transparent, accountable, and participatory governance for the benefit of all residents of Kaduna South," Hussain added.
The Open Government Partnership is a global initiative that secures commitments from governments to promote transparency, empower citizens, fight corruption, and harness technology to strengthen governance.
