The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) has come out in full support of Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, condemning attempts to malign his reputation through alleged political witch-hunt.
Addressing a press conference, ALGON Chairman Abdulrazak Abdulkadir said the governor's achievements, including the recent Presidential Good Governance Award, speak for themselves.
"Why would a governor with such recognitions from the Presidency be portrayed negatively for political reasons?" he asked.
The local government chairmen reaffirmed their support for the Bala Mohammed-led administration, describing it as people-oriented and development-driven.
"We won't stand idly by as disgruntled politicians undermine our governor's achievements," Abdulkadir said.
ALGON has appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene, citing concerns that the harassment undermines democratic values and the rule of law.
"The Governor of Bauchi State enjoys constitutional immunity under Section 308. Why mention his name in court proceedings?" Abdulkadir questioned.
The association urged Tinubu to disengage politicians allegedly using federal agencies for personal vendettas, warning they pose a liability to national stability.
"This press briefing sets the record straight. We're not undermining any agency, but defending our governor's reputation," Abdulkadir said.
