The Kebbi state government has announced plans to empower 1,000 persons with disabilities as part of activities marking the International Day of Persons Living with Disabilities (IDPD) on December 3 is today, having been celebrated December 2, 2025.
Alhaji Zayyanu Umar-Aleiro, Commissioner for Special Duties, made this known on Tuesday while briefing newsmen in Birnin Kebbi.
"The empowerment exercise is part of our efforts to support persons with disabilities in the state," Umar-Aleiro said. "The First Lady, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, will empower 250 beneficiaries under her Renewed Hope Initiative, while the state government will support an additional 650 persons with ₦100,000 each."
Umar-Aleiro added that the state government will also distribute 100 motorcycles to persons with disabilities.
"In total, 1,000 people will benefit from the gesture," he said.
The commissioner further said the wife of the governor, Hajiya Zainab Nasir-Idris, will complement the exercise by giving each beneficiary a bag of rice.
