Bauchi, Bauchi State, Nigeria — November 23, 2025- The Bauchi State Police Command confirmed the death of five officers who were ambushed by bandits during an intelligence‑led patrol in Sabon Sara village, Darazo Local Government Area. Two other officers were injured in the attack, while an unspecified number of assailants were neutralised in the ensuing firefight.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Ahmed Muhammed Wakil, the incident occurred on 22 November 2025 at about 11:30 a.m. The officers were on a visibility‑policing mission aimed at curbing farmer‑herder conflicts in the area. The ambushed team comprised members of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), 10 PMF Bauchi, Anti‑Kidnapping Unit (AKU), and the State Intelligence Department (SID).
“The attackers, identified as unidentified Fulani youths, opened fire in a sudden, violent assault,” CSP Wakil said in a statement issued Sunday. The fallen officers were identified as DSP Ahmad Muhammad (SID), ASP Mustapha Muhammad (10 PMF), Inspector Amarhel Yunusa (10 PMF), Inspector Idris Ahmed (10 PMF), and Corporal Isah Muazu (AKU). Injured were Inspector Isah Musa (SID) and Inspector Yusuf Gambo (SID).
Upon receiving the distress call, Divisional Police Officer SP Auwalu Ilu led a reinforcement team to the scene, rescued the wounded, and evacuated the bodies to General Hospital, Darazo, where the injured received treatment.
Bauchi State Police Commissioner CP Sani‑Omolori Aliyu later visited the site for an on‑the‑spot assessment and condoled with the families of the slain officers. He affirmed the command’s resolve to pursue the perpetrators and ensure justice.
“The task has not been an easy one, but in line with our constitutional mandate, we shall remain fierce, tireless, and relentless in our commitment to the safety of lives and property,” CP Aliyu stated, adding that several of the assailants were neutralised and intensive operations are ongoing to apprehend all those responsible.
