The Office of the Special Adviser to the Kebbi State Governor on Nomadic and Fulani Matters, in collaboration with the Ministry of Animal Husbandry and Fisheries, has concluded a 21-local government area sensitization campaign on drug abuse and other vices among Fulani youths in the state. The campaign, which was approved by Governor Dr. Nasir Idris Kauran Gwandu, aimed to educate Fulani communities on the dangers of drug abuse and other crimes.
The campaign's concluding ceremony was held in Birnin Kebbi Local Government Area, the state capital, and was attended by Fulani leaders, heads, youths, women leaders, local government officials, top government officials, and traditional rulers. In his address, Special Adviser Muhammad Kiruwa said, "His Excellency, the Executive Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris Kauran, graciously approved campaigns tour to 21 LGAs to sensitize Fulani communities as well as settlement for Fulani youths and girls on the danger of drug abuse among other crimes."
Kiruwa added that the governor was concerned about the alleged involvement of Fulani youths in drug abuse and other crimes, which is against the law of the land and Islamic Shari'a laws. He also urged those who are eligible to acquire Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and those who have lost or damaged theirs to register at the nearest INEC office.
The Governor, through the Commissioner for Animal Husbandry and Fisheries, Hon. Kabiru Usman Alaranma, announced that the state government has donated animal feeds, salts, and cattle vaccines to all Fulani communities and settlements across the 21 LGAs. Fulani youths will also be empowered with cash to start small businesses, while women will benefit from wrapper materials, hijabs, and cash donations.
Governor Nasir Idris Kauran Gwandu acknowledged the role of Fulani's during and after elections, as well as their support and cooperation with the present administration. He said, "My administration is committed to assisting and supporting Fulani's in the area of their animal feeds, their well-being, and boosting cattle ranching from local to modernized one."
The Commissioner for Animal Husbandry and Fisheries, Hon. Kabiru Usman Alaranma, represented the Governor at the occasion and appealed to the Fulani community to avail themselves of the opportunity to register for PVCs and collect their cards. Other speakers at the event included the Birnin Kebbi Local Government Council Chairman, Hon. Dahiru Muhammad Nayaya Ambursa, and the Deputy State Commander of NDLEA, Ibrahim Imam.
One of the beneficiaries, Dikkon Gesse Bayaro, in an interview with newsmen, expressed gratitude to the Governor for the gesture and pledged support for his re-election bid in 2027. He urged his fellow Fulani to acquire PVCs and participate in the electoral process.
