The wife of the President, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has officially launched the "Flow with Confidence" Menstrual Hygiene Intervention Programme in Kebbi State. This initiative, under the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), aims to empower schoolgirls by promoting knowledge, dignity, and confidence through improved menstrual health. The programme was launched simultaneously across states, with 370,000 packs of disposable sanitary pads distributed to schoolgirls nationwide.
Each state, including the Federal Capital Territory, received 10,000 packs for free distribution through their First Ladies and RHI Coordinators. At the launch in Birnin Kebbi, represented by the First Lady of Kebbi State and RHI state Coordinator, Hajiya Zainab Nasare Nasir Idris, emphasized that no girl should miss school due to unaffordable sanitary products. "This trend must end," she declared, stressing the intervention's goal of giving girls dignity and confidence.
Hajia Zainab highlighted the challenges many girls face, including resorting to unsafe alternatives or staying home during their menstrual cycle, leading to absenteeism and school dropouts. She announced the handover of 10,000 packs of disposable sanitary pads to deserving schoolgirls in Kebbi State and appealed to Local Government Chairmen to ensure the supplies reach the intended beneficiaries. She also called on corporate organizations, NGOs, and well-meaning Nigerians to support the programme.
The First Lady encouraged students to make the most of the support and remain focused on their studies. "With this initiative, we commit to the dignity, well-being, and future of every Nigerian girl," she concluded, by officially launching the distribution in Kebbi state. Each student went home with a cash support from the office of the First Lady of Kebbi State and a pack of disposable sanitary pad that will last her for 12 months.
The Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Kebbi State, Dr. Halima Muhammad Bande, thanked the First Lady for encouraging girls to remain in school. She assured that the distribution of sanitary pads would be properly monitored to ensure every girl receives them, further enhancing their ability to attend school without interruption.
