The Yauri Local Government Council has imposed a curfew from 10:00 pm to 7:00 am in Yauri metropolitan area following a communal clash that resulted in the death of one person and injuries to others.

According to the Council Chairman, Hon. Abubakar Shuaibu Kauran Yauri, the clash occurred around 12:00 to 1:00 am on Saturday night between illegal miners and the Yaran Turaku group at Tashar Kattai area in Yauri town.

"The clash between the two groups resulted in the death of one person, and we had to summon an emergency security meeting with all the heads of security agencies operating in Yauri local government area," Hon. Kauran Yauri said in an interview.
The Council Chairman revealed that the situation escalated into a communal clash, with over three hundred people gathering and causing destruction, including burning eight motorcycles and breaking business owners' shops.

To restore normalcy, the Council imposed the curfew and mobilized security agencies, including the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN), to patrol the area. Military personnel have also been deployed to support the security efforts.

"We will ensure that the perpetrators face the full wrath of the law, and we urge the people of Yauri to be law-abiding citizens and observe the imposed curfew," Hon. Kauran Yauri emphasized.

The Council Chairman extended his condolences to the family of the deceased person and assured the public that the situation is under control.

The curfew will remain in effect until further notice, and the Council will reconvene for another security meeting next week to review the situation.
In the meantime, the Council has directed security agencies to swing into action and arrest culprits, and identify and close down black spots and joints where illegal miners operate.

Businessmen and traders in Yauri have been advised to be calm and resume their normal activities during the day, but to be indoors by 10:00 pm.
