"5,000 Pupils Targeted in Misau LGA's New Enrolment Initiative"

The Misau local government area of Bauchi state has commenced the enrolment of 5,000 school-aged children for the 2025/2026 academic session, which begins on Monday, as part of efforts to tackle the challenge of out-of-school children. The executive chairman of Misau LGA, Salisu Hussaini Hardawa, disclosed this while speaking with journalists at the premises of the newly completed Mega School, built by the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB).

According to Hardawa, the council had been working to identify children who abandoned school, particularly due to poverty, and ensure they return to the classroom. "We are happy to have a Mega School in Misau. I assure you that we will do our best to maintain it and put the facilities to maximum use," he said.

The chairman further disclosed that additional qualified teachers would be recruited, while existing ones would be monitored closely to guarantee effective teaching. He added that teaching materials and learning aids had already been procured for distribution as schools resume. Hardawa also warned that the council would sanction any teacher found negligent, in line with the directive of SUBEB's Executive Chairman, Adamu Muhammad Duguri.

The Education Secretary highlighted that the school consists of 10 classrooms, eight staff offices, and a modern administrative block, all fully furnished. Each classroom, he noted, is designed to comfortably accommodate at least 50 pupils, while conveniences and other facilities have also been provided.

Speaking during the media tour of government projects, the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Usman Shehu Usman, said the initiative was part of Governor Bala Mohammed's infrastructural interventions. "The Mega School project across the state is aimed at decongesting classrooms and drastically reducing the number of out-of-school children," he explained.

The state government's efforts to improve education infrastructure and increase access to education are expected to have a positive impact on the state's education sector. The new Mega School in Misau is a significant step towards achieving this goal, and the local government's enrolment drive is expected to bring more children back to school.
